How much feedback do you need to get in order to improve?  How often should you receive feedback?  As a leader, what is the right frequency for providing feedback to your team members to drive improved performance and achieve excellence.  Most organizational systems are set up to provide "formal" feedback to people maybe once or twice a year, but if excellence is your pursuit, this is far from the frequency required.  Feedback needs to be a constant, daily event.  And if you are performing multiple repetitions of an activity in a day, then feedback must follow.

While there may be a need for a formal process to occur throughout the year to summarize larger macro trends in performance and to consistently approach succession planning and promotions for the company, performance feedback should not be held hostage to these global corporate programs.  Feedback must occur routinely, regularly and daily for people to strive closer and closer to excellence.  Coaching improved performance is  critical leadership skill and coaching requires daily feedback.
